The Military Memorial in Mignano Montelungo stands at the foot of Monte Lungo, one of the first battlefields along the Gustav Line. The memorial, inaugurated in 1951, holds the remains of 947 Italian combatants who fell during the country's liberation from Nazi-Fascism.

The Military Memorial of Mignano Montelungo is an emblematic representation of the intersection of the sacrifice of a generation and the size of a bountiful territory, which are key features of the Italian and European liberation campaign from Nazi-fascism. In fact, the Memorial remains, on the one hand, as a symbol of the clashes that took place between the Allied troops and the German army at Monte Lungo, the meeting point between Campania, Lazio and Molise, and, on the other hand, as a memorial to victims from the Italian troops engaged in the Italian campaign.

Indeed, it was during the battles of Monte Lungo on 8 December and 16 December1943 that Italian fighters made their first military contribution to the liberation effort by reorganizing themselves into the first Motorised Regiment led first by General Vincenzo D'Apino and later by General Umberto Utili. General Utili's grave is located inside the memorial, in the hemicycle of the last shelf, near those of his comrade in arms, the soldiers of the Italian Liberation Corps and the Folgore, Legnano, Mantova, Friuli and Cremona combat groups. A monumental chapel inside the memorial is also topped by a sculpture erected by Pietro Canonica, depicting a dying soldier in a vision of the Redeemer.

A military museum with displays of commemorative reliefs of the passage of the total war along the Gustav Line stands in front of the memorial.

The memorial is open to visitors on weekdays from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. and on holidays by prior arrangement, exclusively for groups or teams.

Furthermore, the Historicus Museum at the Mignano Montelungo stop at Caspoli will be open to the public. The museum houses artefacts, uniforms, materials and objects related to the passage of WWII at the Gustav. Other sites to visit are the monument to the Bersaglieri Battalion, the Museum of the Second Risorgimento and the stele dedicated to Rino Cozzarini.
