Located in the ruins of Fort Lobau in Bondues, the Resistance Museum traces the history of resistance and repression in northern France during WWII. The site was used by the German occupiers as a place of execution and burial for members of the resistance.

The Resistance Museum of Bondues is housed within Fort Lobau, a 19th-century military fort near Lille that became a place of repression during the German occupation of northern France. Between 1943 and 1944, the fort was used by the occupying authorities as an execution site for members of the Resistance.

Today, the museum documents the history of resistance networks in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions and the broader context of occupation, repression, and liberation. Through archival documents, personal belongings, photographs, testimonies, and reconstructed spaces, the museum presents the experiences of those who opposed the occupation and the risks they faced.

A central part of the museum is devoted to the 68 resistance fighters executed at the fort by German forces. Their names, backgrounds, and engagements illustrate the diversity of resistance activity in the region. Some belonged to organised networks, while others acted more locally through intelligence gathering, sabotage, clandestine press activities, or assistance to Allied personnel. The museum also highlights the mechanisms of surveillance, arrest, interrogation, and imprisonment used against them.

The exhibition places these individual stories within the wider history of the occupation in northern France. It examines everyday life under German rule, censorship, shortages, deportations, and the gradual organisation of resistance movements. Particular attention is given to the regional dimension of the conflict and to the links between local resistance groups and larger Allied operations.

The museum also preserves the memory of Fort Lobau itself. Visitors can still see parts of the original site, including areas connected to the execution of detainees. The fort therefore functions both as a historical museum and as a memorial space.

By combining historical interpretation with personal testimonies, the Resistance Museum of Bondues offers insight into the realities of occupation and the choices made by those who resisted in northern France during the Second World War.
