The two young brothers Giorgio and Luciano Guermani were killed in Piteglio by a German unit on 12 September 1944. A small shrine was dedicated to them at the site of the execution.
The two young brothers form Florence, Giorgio Guermani (18 years old) and Luciano Guermani (17 years old), were displaced in September 1944 to their villa in Montecatini Alto.
On 9 September, they were captured by a German patrol from the 362nd Infantry Division and forced to carry military equipment to Piteglio, where they were housed in the home of Maria Mafucci.
On the morning of 12 September, they were taken by a German officer to a field just outside the town and shot in the head. They were probably suspected of being partisans.
About a month later, their bodies were exhumed and transferred back to their hometown.
Their father, engineer Alberto Guermani, died six months later after falling from a bridge destroyed by the German forces while inspecting the remains.
A small shrine has been dedicated to the Guermani brothers at the site of their execution, as well as a square in Piteglio and a street in Montecatini Alto.
