HMS Vernon was a Royal Navy shore establishment built on the site of the original gun wharf. During the Second World War, HMS Vernon was the home of the naval diver training, torpedo and mine development schools and accommodated Task Force ‘S’ who assisted troops landing on Sword Beach.
