To the left of the entrance to the Roman Catholic church stands the first war memorial of Lichtenvoorde. As early as 1941, it was donated by the parish in gratitude for the preservation of human life during the May days of 1940.
The inscription "Te Deum Laudamus" (We praise Thee, God) is the beginning of one of the oldest hymns of the Roman Catholic Church and is only used on very solemn occasions. The depicted soldier commemorates the war.
