In 2024, a new exhibition room was opened within the LabOrantes Museum at Castello Manservisi (Mannservisi Castle), a historic complex in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme. The exhibition features photographs and artefacts commemorating the war on the Gothic Line and partisan activity in the area.

Castelluccio Castle was built in the 17th century as the residence of the Counts of Nanni-Levera, who were among the region’s leading landowners, thanks to the patronage of Cardinal Lambertini (later Pope Benedict XIV).

In 1886, Alessandro Manservisi, then owner of one of Bologna’s most prominent tailoring businesses, purchased the complex together with three other partners and oversaw its renovation in the Neo-Gothic style. Manservisi died in 1912, stipulating that his property be donated to charity. The complex was subsequently managed by the Dall’Olio – Manservisi Foundation, which was later incorporated into the Provincial Health Authority of Bologna. The castle became a hotel, then a holiday camp, and finally the headquarters of Pro Loco.

Within the complex, using private materials collected by Pro Loco, the LabOrantes Museum was opened in 2001, dedicated to daily life, popular piety and working tools of the mountain village. It is a municipal museum, run by Pro Loco. Since 2004, it has been part of BAM – Libraries, Archives and Museums – the Upper Reno Museum Network. With over 20 exhibition rooms, it is the largest museum in the Bolognese mountains. It hosts permanent exhibitions, artist residencies and a music school.

It has also dedicated numerous activities to the history of the Second World War. For example, in June 2016 it hosted the exhibition ‘Pain and Freedom’, featuring photographs of the Gothic Line by Aniceto Antilopi.

On 6 July 2024, a new gallery was inaugurated at the museum, entirely dedicated to the history of the Gothic Line (German and Italian defensive line) and the Resistance in this area. The ribbon was cut by the Mayor of Alto Reno Terme, Giuseppe Nanni, together with the regional councillor for Mountain Policy, Igor Taruffi, in front of over 100 people. A new book on the mountain partisan units was also presented that day.
